KiwiFibre creates natural fibre materials from harakeke - one of the world’s strongest natural fibres. We are a vertically integrated company, bringing harakeke from plant through to product, supplying large global automotive and sports manufacturers. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Harvest Team Lead to join our dynamic team and oversee the 2024 harakeke harvest.
Position Overview:
The Harakeke Harvest Team Lead will be responsible for leading a team of harvest workers to ensure the efficient and effective harvesting and processing of harakeke leaves. This role requires strong leadership skills, an understanding of agricultural practices, and the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team. The ideal candidate will previous farming or related experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise, train, and lead a team of harvest workers.
- Assign tasks and ensure team members are following proper procedures and safety protocols.
- Monitor team performance and provide feedback to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Harvest and Processing Management:
- Plan and coordinate daily harvest activities to meet production targets.
- Ensure the proper use and maintenance of harvesting equipment.
- Monitor the quality of harakeke being harvested and implement quality control measures.
- Plan harvest and processing days based on upcoming weather reports
- Operational Efficiency:
- Optimise harvesting and processing techniques to maximize yield and minimize waste.
- Track and report on harvest/processing progress and productivity.
- Work with the National Operations lead and Engineering lead to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the harvesting and processing processes
- Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce safety regulations and ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions.
- Communication:
- Liaise with the National Operations Lead to align on daily and weekly goals.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Provide regular updates and reports on harvest status and any issues encountered.
Qualifications:
- Experience in farming operations
- Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Comfortable handling knives.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safety and compliance with agricultural and company regulations.
- Forklift F endorsement (not necessary)
- First aid level 2 (not necessary)
- Full class 1 drivers licence
