Rārangi Utu ā-Mātauranga - Education Payroll Limited (EPL) is a core part of New Zealand’s education sector, delivering an accurate, timely and secure payroll for the people at the heart of our education system – teachers and support staff.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Reporting to the Chief Executive, this role is a member of the Executive Leadership team and is pivotal in the delivery of Education Payroll Limited’s (EPL’s) strategic priorities and long-term sustainability. 

The role leads the Finance and Performance Group, driving quality financial management, insightful performance reporting, robust risk and assurance management and enterprise procurement strategies.

Are you a CFO or senior finance professional seeking the opportunity to broaden your horizons and be part of a team that is responsible for sustaining and maintaining the performance of NZ’s biggest and most complex payroll service?  Are you technology savvy and passionate about both financial and non-financial performance reporting? Are you energised by agile ways of working and building risk and assurance capability and controls awareness? Do you understand the value and importance of enterprise procurement?

As part of the executive leadership team, you’ll be endlessly curious about how our business works. You’ll have extensive people leadership experience, superb relationship management skills and the ability to provide strategic advice and insights that support the achievement of EPL’s current and future objectives. 

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a newly formed group that will support EPL to build capability and maturity across mission critical support functions.

You’ll be able to recruit key vacancies across the Finance and Performance Group following a recently completed capability review. This is a unique opportunity to establish and support the development of responsive and value adding support functions for EPL. 

The successful candidate will need:

  • Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) membership, or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in or understanding of public sector accounting at a senior level.
  • Experience in or understanding of state sector legislation (specifically the Public Service Act and the Public Finance Act).
  • The ability to think critically and provide strategic advice to the EPL Board and senior leaders.
  • A curious mindset and ability to pragmatically balance agility with an appropriate level of internal control.
  • Proven ability to influence at a senior level and across the wider public sector.
  • Experience developing and presenting material for a Board.
  • Understanding of assurance and risk management processes and the ability to implement and monitor these.

Ko tā mātou mahi | We offer

The successful candidate will be appointed between $205,000 and $246,000 depending on experience and capability.
