We have an opportunity for an inspiring leader to join BNZ Technology as Head of Technology – Engineering.

Based in Auckland or Wellington, this position is responsible for driving engineering excellence, strategic technical direction, and operational efficiencies across BNZ’s technology platforms.

What are some of the responsibilities of this role?

• Own BNZ’s engineering standards, practices, and ways of working across the software engineering community.
• Define what good engineering looks like at BNZ, balancing speed, quality, security, resilience, and sustainability.
• Define and evolve BNZ’s standard path to production across the software development lifecycle.
• Actively engage the broader engineering community to build shared ownership of engineering practices and standards.
• Partner with Engineering leaders to identify capability gaps and target investment.
• Lead a small, highly capable team with deep engineering credibility, setting clear expectations, accountability, and a culture of learning and continuous improvement.​

What is your management style?

High trust, clear outcomes. I coach, remove obstacles, and hold a high bar. You will be given lots of autonomy to make the role your own. 

What will success look like for the candidate in this role?

Success in this role will be demonstrated by effectively driving engineering excellence, strategic technical direction, and operational efficiencies across BNZ’s technology platforms. You will also be successful in promoting a culture of innovation and collaboration, ensuring systems are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with business outcomes.

What specific skills and experience would be beneficial for this role?

We are looking for proven experience in technology leadership in large -scale environments, including senior roles with engineering oversight. You should have proven expertise in managing complex technology platforms, and experience in engineering strategy definition and alignment.

You will bring a deep understanding of modern software engineering practices and SDLC tooling. Strong engineering credibility and influencing skills are essential, as is the ability to guide outcomes and foster collaboration without direct authority.

To thrive in this role, you will need resilience and adaptability, maintaining focus under pressure. Additionally, you should have strong problem-solving abilities, delivering practical solutions to engineering challenges.
