Job Description - Health & Safety Business Partner

Te Roopu Taurima is the largest kaupapa Māori disability support provider supporting tāngata of all ethnicities with intellectual and physical impairments. Guided by tikanga Māori, we uphold the mana and unique identity of every individual we support, creating culturally safe, inclusive, and empowering environments for tāngata to live their best lives.


 


We’re looking for an experienced Health & Safety Business Partner to help shape how health, safety, and wellbeing is led across our organisation. You’ll work alongside senior leaders and managers, influence decision-making, and support the embedding of health and safety into everyday practice.


 


 


Location: Te Roopu Taurima Support Office, 650 Great South Road, Ellerslie 1051
Hours of work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 0830-1700


 


Note: Work visa support is not available for this role.




About the role:


 


As our Health & Safety Business Partner, you’ll work across all parts of the organisation to support practical, consistent approaches to health, safety, and wellbeing.


 


You’ll provide trusted advice on risk and safety matters, support sound decision-making, and help ensure health and safety is embedded in planning and service delivery. You’ll also play a key role in incident response, system improvement, and ongoing learning across the organisation.


 



Duties include:


 



  • Partner with leaders to embed health, safety, and wellbeing into planning, decision-making, and everyday practice

  • Provide trusted advice on complex risks and serious incidents, including supporting investigations and identifying practical improvements

  • Use data and insight to identify trends, highlight emerging risks, and support informed decision-making

  • Support and strengthen health and safety systems, processes, reporting, audits, and engagement with regulators such as WorkSafe and ACC

  • Build capability across leaders and Health and Safety representatives, providing guidance, reporting, and clear escalation of serious risk where needed


 


 


About you:


 


You’re confident partnering at all levels of the organisation and comfortable having courageous conversations when safety matters. You take a practical, grounded approach and focus on people and workable solutions.


 



You’ll bring:


 



  • Experience in health and safety roles in complex, multi-site environments

  • Confidence working alongside senior leaders and influencing decision-making

  • Strong understanding of NZ health and safety legislation and good practice

  • Experience supporting or leading incident investigations and risk management

  • Ability to turn information into practical, meaningful action

  • Calm and steady approach in serious or sensitive situations

  • Strong communication skills and ability to build trusted relationships

  • Commitment to working in a way that reflects tikanga Māori and our organisational values
