Job Description - Health & Safety Advisor

About us 

The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners is, a medical college that is the post-graduate training organisation for doctors wanting to specialise in general practice and rural hospital medicine, and a membership organisation. Our 75+ operational staff support our College members with an aim to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities. 

About the role 

Reporting to the HR & Services Manager, the fixed-term Health & Safety Advisor will be responsible for delivering the pre-existing work programme designed to shift the College’s Health & Safety management system from reactive through systematic to proactive.  This will involve: 

  • Reviewing, designing, delivering and embedding Health, Safety & Wellbeing solutions, initiatives, and processes outlined in the Health & Safety workplan. 
  • Providing advice pertaining to compliance, reporting and effective H&S management so that the College maintains compliance with the applicable legislation. 
  • Partnering with the business at all levels, providing expert advice on Health and Safety issues and best practice to ensure the College’s Health & Safety system develops through to be assessed as proactive. 
  • Reporting on Health, Safety and Wellbeing initiatives to the SMT and Board. 

 Skills & Experience 

  • Experience in a Health and Safety Advisory role delivering improvements to a Health & Safety Management system
  • Working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and its amendments. 
  • Experience in providing Health, Safety and Wellness advice using a business-partnership approach. 
  • Experience in development of H&S Systems, Policies and Standard Operating Procedures. 
  • Self-managed and can take the initiative. 
  • Flexible, adaptable and enjoys challenge and change.
