My client, based in East Tamaki, has diversified and grown to a team of 415 staff and subcontractors. Having manufactured, installed and managed a number of major commercial projects nationally, this business continues to go from strength to strength.
This business has grown in head count, and implemented a number of systems utilising technology to help deliver projects, along with providing meaningful reporting around health and safety and quality assurance. There is now a strong need, due to changing risk profiles, for an experienced and established Health and Safety Manager to come on board. With full commitment from the senior leadership team, the role will have both support and autonomy for you to use your expertise to drive improvements.
About the role: - You will continue to develop the health and safety strategy and take full ownership of this critical function in the business.
- Promote a safety-first culture across the business through strategy development and ongoing support.
- Develop training material and competencies for new business functions.
- Build meaningful relationships with employees and sub-contractors, taking them with you on the journey to following best practice
- Create consistency across the different business units.
- Ensure that the business remains compliant with current legislation and industry best practices.
- Proactively identify risk, effectively communicate with employees and determine appropriate controls.
- Develop and evaluate health and safety training materials and inductions.
- Incident investigations and reporting.
About you: - You have the experience behind you to back your decisions and have worked within a high-risk industry requiring robust health and safety regulations – building and construction industry experience is an absolute must!
- You are passionate about health and safety and have the ability to get people onside and influence positive outcomes – from the senior leadership team right through to installers and subcontractors.
- You always ensure excellent attention to detail
- You have a proven working knowledge of NZ WHS Legislation, as well as a practical, common-sense approach to H&S.
- You enjoy and are proactive about educating, supporting and mentoring individuals across the business.
- You can confidently write policies and procedures as well as conduct incident investigations.
- You hold a valid drivers licence and are flexible to travel as required.
- A formal qualification in Work, Health, and Safety is advantageous.
