Market Gardeners Ltd is a leading supplier of domestic and imported fresh produce within New Zealand. MG is a 100 year old grower co-operative with a successful record of marketing, distributing and selling a comprehensive range of fresh fruit and vegetables. We work closely with New Zealand retail chains and independent outlets to provide top quality produce, both domestically-grown and imported - Including leading global brands Dole and Sunkist.

We are looking for an experienced Imports Trader to join our Imports team in our Christchurch based Support Office. In this position you will be part of a small team involved in the procurement and distribution of produce from over 15 countries for the New Zealand market.

Your key duties will be:

• The procurement of international produce to meet internal and external customer needs and standards
• Manage and maintain key partnerships with suppliers, customers, service providers and all key stakeholders
• Meet with suppliers, branches and key account customers as regularly as required
• Efficient management of all the supply chain logistics required in the delivery of international produce to the MG Group branch network, customers and key stakeholders
• Planning and implementation of promotional schedules
• Timely communication with MG Branches, suppliers, service providers and key stakeholders in the distribution of imported produce nationally
• Data entry
• Ensure profitability of each shipment imported while meeting agreed category sales targets nationally
• Analysis of macro and micro economic principles to assist forecasting and procurement decisions
• Foreign currency purchases and management

The Person: To be successful in this position, you will need to be able to demonstrate the following skills;

• An understanding of both the domestic and international produce industry
• The ability to build and maintain long term business relationships
• Experience in negotiating for mutually beneficial results
• Excellent problem solving skills
• An ability to work under pressure to meet role deadlines
• Have great attention to detail
• Superior numerical and analytical skills. This is a detail focused role so those who are well organised and structured will be well suited to the role
• Good computer and data entry skills
• Have the ability to be adaptive and decisive

Previous experience in importing or freight forwarding would be an advantage. Full on the job training provided.

The Hours:     

Full time, Monday to Friday or as the role requires with international time zones.
