We’re looking for an experienced and influential leader to join our Asset Strategy and Information team as our Improvement and Systems Lead.

Reporting to the Head of Asset Strategy and Information, this role is responsible for leading organisation-wide improvement initiatives and providing business ownership of our asset management information systems. You’ll work across Council to strengthen how we manage assets, improve capability, and support better decision-making for our city.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the design and delivery of organisation-wide asset management improvements
  • Act as the business owner for our asset management information systems, working closely with Digital Services to influence system direction and performance
  • Provide expert asset management advice to teams across Council
  • Lead and support the development of long-term asset management planning frameworks and practices
  • Build organisational capability through training, guidance, and practical support
  • Develop and maintain an accessible asset management knowledge hub for staff
  • Ensure policies, standards, and practices are clear, consistent, and aligned to best practice
  • Identify and manage risks, including contributing to business continuity planning
  • Support cross-Council collaboration to deliver asset management outcomes
  • Contribute to relationships across the sector, including through Āpōpō NZ

Qualifications

You are a seasoned asset management professional who can influence, lead change, and bring people on the journey.

You will have:

  • 15+ years’ experience in asset management and/or local government
  • A relevant degree in engineering, science, IT, management, or similar
  • Proven experience leading asset management or system improvement programmes in a large organisation
  • Strong expertise in asset management systems, processes, and integrations
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Deep knowledge of asset management principles, frameworks, and sector best practice
  • Experience working across teams to design and implement improvements
  • Strong communication and report writing skills
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to delivering outcomes

Desirable:

  • Infrastructure asset management accreditation (e.g. IAM)
  • Programme or change management experience
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it applies in your
