New Zealand Police is working with communities to make New Zealanders safer. Our Intelligence function plays a key role in preventing harm and enabling effective operational responses.


The Response and Operations Team is made up of National Security Intelligence Analysts and Intelligence Support Officers who work together to support national security outcomes for Aotearoa New Zealand.


As an Intelligence Analyst, you will identify, develop, and progress existing and emerging leads within the national security environment. You will use financial intelligence and a range of analytical techniques to support operational and strategic outcomes, drawing on reporting provided under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009.


This role will also have a strong focus on the detection and analysis of sanctions evasion and breaches, proliferation financing, and targeted financial sanctions activity. You will provide specialist advice to Police and partner agencies to support national security investigations and responses.


 


Key Accountabilities:


 



  • Analyse and interpret information from a range of sources to identify risks and threats to national security.

  • Detect and assess suspected sanctions evasion, proliferation financing, and targeted financial sanctions breaches.

  • Produce high-quality intelligence products to inform prevention, disruption, and enforcement activity.

  • Provide clear, evidence-based advice to support decision-making across Police and partner agencies.

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders across the national security system.

  • Contribute to operational and strategic intelligence outcomes.

  • Collaborate on projects and group analysis.

  • Contribute to core intelligence reporting and deliverables of the Unit.

  • Develop and maintain a wide range of professional relationships.

  • Take ownership of work through to the delivery of expected outcomes.

  • Great written and verbal communication skills.

  • A committed and positive attitude towards teamwork and professional development.

  • Regular peer review and project coaching.

  • Applicants will be required to hold a relevant tertiary qualification or be able to demonstrate relevant experience in a similar role.



  • Successful applicants must reside in Wellington or must be willing to relocate.

  • This role is office based within the specified location.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance.

Security Clearance Requirements 


 


To be eligible for this role, you must obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance. 


The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:


NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or: 



  • A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or

  • A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $87,306 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
