The Online Child Exploitation Across New Zealand (OCEANZ) team, who investigate online child sexual exploitation, are seeking applicants to fill the position of Victim Identification Investigator.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team to conduct victim identification investigations, and support child exploitation investigations throughout New Zealand and around the world.

This a demanding yet rewarding role and we are seeking applicants who have high levels of resilience, self-motivation, and a desire to be part of a high performing team. The role will see you working closely with domestic and international partner agencies. In collaboration with our team, you will share responsibility for building and driving victim identification capability across New Zealand Police.

You will be required to analyse media content depicting child exploitation and abuse with a goal to ultimately identifying, locating and safeguarding child victims. You will conduct victim identification investigations with the knowledge that the imagery we investigate can lead to real world child victims. You will develop your tradecraft and methodology, with a long-term view of creating a sustainable long-term capability.

To succeed in this role, you must be prepared to be exposed to objectionable publications including the sexual abuse of children. This role will require a focus on personal psychological wellbeing, and you will be expected to have regular psychological checks.

Preferred but not essential is:

• Experience in conducting or supporting criminal investigations.


• Experience in or knowledge of technology enabled crime investigations.
    

Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements

• Must undergo three monthly appointments with regard to psychological well-being.


• The successful applicant must reside in Wellington.

Security Clearance Requirements  

To be eligible for this role, you may be asked to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance. 

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or: 

• A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or


• A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau | Salary 

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $96,008 and $101,632 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
