Job Description - Kaitohutohu Poipoia

About the Role

Imagine a future where every tamaiti thrives from the very beginning—where whānau are empowered as first teachers, and early learning is woven into the everyday rhythms of home and community.

Te Puawaitanga ki Ōtautahi Trust is seeking a Kaitohutohu to join our team and support whānau Māori with tamariki aged 0–3. This role is about walking alongside whānau, nurturing their aspirations, and helping them prepare for kōhanga reo and ECE enrolment through culturally grounded, strengths-based support.

You’ll work in homes, group sessions, and community spaces—creating early learning journals, development plans, and meaningful connections. You’ll help whānau see the richness in their everyday interactions and unlock the potential of Te Whāriki through play, planning, and whanaungatanga.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in early childhood education and working with Māori whānau

  • Embodies manaakitanga, kotahitanga, and wairuatanga in their practice

  • Is confident in te ao Māori and committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • Can build trust, navigate systems, and advocate for whānau aspirations

Join us in building a better tomorrow—where tamariki are nurtured, whānau are connected, and learning begins with aroha.

Apply now and be part of a movement that’s better together.

What we offer:

  • A kaupapa Māori work environment and culture where hauora is prioritised

  • Education, training and ongoing development opportunities

  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • A day off on your birthday

  • Fun daily whanaungatanga sessions

Applications close: midday Friday 18 July

Salary is dependent on qualifications and years of experience.

We will be reviewing applications as they are received and progressing to interviews quickly. We reserve the right to close advertising early if the position is filled during the advertising period.
