If you want to inspire young Māori rangatahi/students (Year 9 -13) to aspire to being the best they can be and guide those who are interested in exploring a career in the health. The Whakapiki Ake Project (WPA), is a Māori recruitment pipeline that actively engages with rangatahi and whānau. Supporting their journey through secondary school and into a health-related, tertiary study programme in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) at the University of Auckland. We work closely with schools, internal University of Auckland teams and many external organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Connect with Māori students, encourage and support their cultural and academic growth.
• Create sustainable relationships with whānau and schools to support rangatahi to maximise their potential and opportunities.

• Be ready and keen to learn more about the secondary and tertiary health pathways.

• Be a self-starter, getting things done in a fast-paced environment.
• Plan, prepare and eventually run projects, events and presentations.
• Map, track and monitor.

This is a fulltime (37.5 hours per week) permanent position. The salary range for this role is between $72,000- $88,900 dependent on skills and experience.

He kōrero mōu | About you



This role is part of a dedicated Māori health workforce recruitment project team.



 To be successful you will have the following Knowledge and Skills:

• A team player who values kaupapa Māori
• A tertiary qualification from a NZ university or Whare Wānanga.
• A clean driver's license.
• Experience (1-2 years) working with Māori students and communities.
• A great communicator and organiser.
• Know your way around event planning and making cool Power Point slides.
• Comfortable with te reo and Māori tikanga/practice, especially at marae and Kura Kaupapa Māori.
• Be able to travel outside the Auckland region.
