Want to play a key role in shaping Hamilton’s future? We’re looking for a Land Development Engineer to join our Development Engineering Infrastructure and Assets team where you will help ensure new subdivision and land use developments are planned, designed and delivered to a high standard. In this role, you’ll provide expert transportation and engineering advice across the full development lifecycle, from consenting and design through to construction and final asset handover, helping create sustainable, well-connected communities that support our city’s growth.  The role focuses on transport related matters, however you should have a good understanding of stormwater and other municipal engineering aspects as the role requires alignment, integration, and future proofing of all infrastructure.

You’ll work closely with developers, Council teams and IAWAI (Flowing Waters) to coordinate infrastructure outcomes, solve complex challenges and ensure projects meet regulatory requirements, council standards and future infrastructure needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence how Hamilton grows, while making sure transport, water and community and City infrastructure is delivered safely, efficiently and is fit for purpose.

Oo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experience

• Diploma or degree in, Civil Engineering, Environmental or construction management or nearing completion of.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in construction of transport and knowledge of three waters infrastructure
• Experience in road design and traffic engineering.
• Knowledge and application of technical standards for design and construction of transport infrastructure
• Experience in auditing physical works
• Knowledge of the Resource Management Act (RMA)
• Knowledge regulatory planning processes.
• Experience with quality systems and auditing

Qualities and attributes:

• The ability to think differently, acting with integrity, working together and making it happen.
• A current full New Zealand (or equivalent) drivers’ licence
• Good numeracy and English language skills (both written and oral)
• Focus on quality management and priorities work to get things done.
• Sound communication skills and negotiation experience desirably in the development/contracting industry.
• Facilitates and works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Ability to exercise discretion in a commercially sensitive environment.
• Make effective decisions under pressure and thinks clearly in times of rapid change.
• Proactive and able to use initiative to solve problems or create opportunities
• Ability to build and maintain relationships.
