Kia hiwa ra! An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and passionate person to join our Community Law team as a Lawyer/ Roia Hapori at 155 Whare Āwhina.

Based in Whangarei, 155 Community Law Taitokerau is a service of 155 Whare Awhina.  We offer a whanau ora integrated approach across all our services: Community Law, Whanau Support, Housing Navigation and Housing First, Open Arms, Food Bank, Food Rescue and Community Development. 

The right person will join a highly skilled and passionate team of individuals who share a strong sense of social justice.  You will have great decision-making, kaitiakitanga, relationship-building and communication skills as well as self-management skills and legal experience. Our constitutional goal of Treaty-based operations means you will have a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi based partnership. Sensitivity to, and knowledge of, te reo Māori and tikanga Māori is also desirable.

Position details:

• Full-time, Monday to Friday.
• Based in Whangarei and working at our outreaches, including being on roster for our Ngati Hine night clinics. 

Duties include:

• Legal case work: Providing legal information, assistance, and representation for a range of client in Taikokerau. 
• Legal resource education: contributing to the development of the legal education programme
• Community Development: provision of legal information throughout the community

Our Community Law Centre is looking for:

• A practising lawyer who is passionate about ensuring whanau have access to justice and has experience working with Maori.
• Ideally, you will have experience in one or more of the following areas: Disputes Resolution, Employment, Tenancy and Housing, Consumer Affairs, Family, Enduring Powers of Attorney, among other things.
• Hold a current New Zealand practicing certificate or working towards it. 
• You are a team player who can work confidently on your own.
• You will have a working knowledge of Te Tiriti O Waitangi, Te Reo Maori, and Tikanga Maori.
• NZ Citizenship.
• Hold a full New Zealand driver’s licence.

We would also consider graduates with a strong sense of social justice and a heart for helping people. Remuneration will be based on experience and qualifications.
