Job Description - Learning Designer - Curriculum & Resources (6 Month Fixed Term)

Description

Banqer

At Banqer, we believe every student should be empowered to financially thrive.

More than 750,000 students across Australasia have experienced our classroom-based financial education, brought to life through real-world financial simulations that make learning engaging, relevant, and meaningful.

We make delivering world-leading financial education easy, equipping teachers with innovative tools to deliver impactful learning experiences that prepare students for life beyond the classroom.

With education and people at our core, and technology as our enabler, we're here to create meaningful impact in communities while building a commercially strong and sustainable business.

The Role

We're looking for a Learning Designer to help us bring the next generation of Banqer Primary to life.

We're rebuilding Banqer Primary from the ground up, and the teaching resources are the part students and teachers touch every day. We've started the groundwork, and now we're looking for someone to bring it to life: the units, lesson plans, lesson slides, and quizzes that make up the programme.

You'll report to the Chief Product Officer and work alongside our product team, who'll help make sure the resources you create sequence beautifully with the simulation students learn in.

There's a lot of high-quality content to create, and a timeline to work towards together. It's a role for an experienced teacher who's energised by making things — someone who can take a year plan and a curriculum objective and turn it into lessons a teacher can pick up and deliver with confidence. You'll write, gather feedback, and refine your work as you go, with AI helping you cover more ground.

At the end of the contract, success looks like a complete, classroom-ready set of resources across our NZ and AU year levels: thoughtfully sequenced, mapped to the curriculum, and trusted by teachers to deliver.

This is a six-month fixed-term contract at 37.5 hours per week, though we can be flexible on hours for the right person. We'd love to have you working from our Christchurch office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Resource creation: Write the units, lesson plans, lesson slides, quizzes, and teaching notes that make up the programme — to a high standard, across a full set of year levels.
  • Curriculum alignment: Map every resource to the relevant frameworks — NZ Maths (Number, Statistics) and Social Sciences (Economic Activity), AU Maths and Humanities (Consumer & Financial Literacy) — and maintain coverage documentation so schools can see exactly how Banqer fits.
  • Writing for two audiences: Create teacher-facing materials a non-specialist can deliver with minimal prep, and student-facing content that's age-appropriate, clear, and engaging across the year levels.
  • Product collaboration: Work closely with the product team so lessons sequence with simulation features.
  • Iteration: Take feedback from teachers, students, and the team, and turn it into better resources together.
  • Quality assurance: Review your work for curriculum alignment, pedagogical soundness, factual accuracy of financial concepts, and accessibility before it's shared.

Requirements

You're an experienced teacher who loves making great teaching resources. You understand how a programme hangs together across a year, you write clearly, and you get a kick out of producing work that lands in classrooms.

Here's what will help you thrive in this role:

  • Classroom experience: You've got 3+ years teaching experience, and you've worked beyond your own classroom — leading curriculum, mentoring, or helping shape how things get taught across a school or syllabus.
  • Curriculum knowledge: You know NZ primary curriculum well enough to align resources confidently from day one, and you’re happy to learn parts of the AU curriculum.
  • Strong writer: You write clearly for both teachers and students, and are happy to learn to use AI tools to help you work across a full programme.
  • Initiative: You take ownership and follow through. Given a goal, you'll find a way forward — and you know when to bring others in along the way. You've got real examples of taking a resource or programme from an idea to in-use, and the judgement to know where AI helps and where it doesn't.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity: You make a sensible call, talk through the trade-offs, and keep things moving with the team.
  • Open to feedback: You don't get attached to a first draft. You hear what isn't landing, understand why, and refine it without ego.
  • Self-managing: You organise your own work, prioritise, and deliver to milestones, keeping the team in the loop as you go.
  • Purpose-driven: You're motivated by Banqer's mission to help students thrive financially through real-world learning.

If you meet most of these and the role excites you, we'd love to hear from you — we know great people don't always tick every box.

Benefits

At Banqer, we're proud of the team we've built. People here are connected to the purpose, work with real autonomy, and genuinely support each other, without the silos or politics that slow other teams down.

We work hard, and we know when to switch off. Every quarter we get out of the office together: escape rooms, bouldering, soap making, and a ping pong tournament that gets more spirited every year. We celebrate wins, professional and personal, and birthdays get a cake (and on occasion, a billboard).

You'll also get to see the impact of your work firsthand, through school visits where you can see Banqer in action with students and teachers.

We also offer a great office location near Lincoln Road eateries, with free on-site parking and flexible work hours if you need to start early, finish late, or step out for the school run.

Intrigued?

If you're excited about working with a mission-driven team, doing meaningful work, and shaping the financial education thousands of students will learn from, we'd love to hear from you.

Please apply through the platform where you found this role. This helps us ensure a fair and consistent process for every candidate. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so we encourage you to apply early.
