LEARNING SUPPORT ADVISOR

We are looking to appoint a Learning Support Advisor for our Learning Support Centre. to work 40 hours a week including weekends. The successful applicant will have a higher degree in a relevant discipline and will have successful experience in teaching and in working with students to improve their study skills. Duties include:

• Provision of a diagnostic and advice service for students who are academically “at risk.”
• Working with administrative staff to ensure all students with poor performance are interviewed and supported where possible.
• Giving in-service instruction to teaching staff, to assist them in identifying “at risk” students and in giving front-line support.
• Developing a diagnostic system for identifying the main contributing factors to academic failure both in a generic sense and in individual student cases.
• Developing an inventory of human resources (successful senior students) who are available to give effective assistance to students with specific learning needs, including training and supervising these senior students.
• Developing and running “pursuit of excellence” type seminars for students who are not at risk of failure, but who need to be encouraged to raise their sights.
• Keeping up to date with the literature relevant to the field, disseminating relevant findings to teaching staff as appropriate, and contributing to research.

Salary range: $55,000pa to $60,000pa.
