He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities.

Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.

As a Lifeguard, you are responsible for:

• Providing a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers


• Educating and enforcing pool rules


• Responding to any First Aid emergencies


• Ensuring our pool and the surrounding areas are always clean

We are looking for permanent part time lifeugards working from 16 to 40 hours a week.

As our centre operates 7 days a week (varies from 5:30am to 9:00pm), the ability to work early morning, late night, and weekends is vital.

The ideal candidate would be able to have flexibility to work across a variety of shifts Monday – Sunday.

We are looking for strong swimmers, who are dedicated to helping others.

• Swim 200m in under 6 minutes 


• Swim 25m sidestroke


• Swim 50m breaststroke


• Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool 


• Tread water for 5 minutes 

Flexibility, reliability and a commitment to working early, late, and weekend shifts are essential.

To work as a pool lifeguard in New Zealand, you will need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).

For these positions, you MUST have a current First Aid Certificate and a current Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC) to be considered.
