Logistics Manager - Manufacturing (Mt Wellington, Auckland)

We are seeking a driven and experienced Logistics professional to join our manufacturing business in Auckland.

About the Company:

We are one of New Zealand's leading manufacturers and suppliers of packaging solutions to a wide range of industries throughout New Zealand and Australia.  Our customers include blue chip manufacturers and marketers of packaging products to the food, medical and industrial sectors.

About the Role:

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the entire logistics chain within our manufacturing facility, ensuring the safe, timely, and cost-effective movement of materials. From raw materials feeding production to finished goods reaching customers, you will be the mastermind behind efficient distribution.

This role is a great fit for:

  • Experienced Logistics Managers: We welcome applications from seasoned professionals with a proven track record of success in logistics leadership.
  • Logistics Coordinators (or similar) ready for the next step: Are you an experienced Logistics Coordinator with import/export, freight forwarding experience, and a desire to take on a leadership role? This could be your opportunity.

You will be responsible for:

  • Safety First: Develop and implement safety policies and training programs, specifically for the MPI Transitional Facility Container Yard, busy Dispatch, and Warehouse.  You will also oversee the safety of external partners like truck drivers, delivery drivers and waste disposal operators.
  • Distribution Management: Leveraging our company's ERP system, you'll orchestrate local, national, and export distribution, ensuring customer orders arrive on schedule and production receives raw materials according to the plan. This includes managing material imports from global suppliers.
  • Collaborative Efficiency: You will work closely with Planning, Purchasing and Sales teams, ensuring on-time customer deliveries, efficient supplier deliveries, and a responsive and cost-effective distribution system built through strong relationships with multiple freight forwarders.
  • Warehouse Operations: Oversee accurate material movement in and out of dispatch, manage scheduled stock takes, and implement FIFO (First-In-First-Out) materials management practices.
  • Waste Management Champion: Minimize waste disposal costs by managing disposal schedules and spearheading projects to repurpose waste. Your goal is to minimize landfill impact and leverage the company's sustainability initiatives.
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to a team of two, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.

You are a great fit if you have:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in logistics, with a focus on import/export and freight forwarding (ideally in the manufacturing sector).
  • Proven track record of optimizing supply chains for safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Proven skills in the management of 
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and a commitment to creating a safe work environment.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Experience working with ERP systems for planning purposes is an advantage.
