Job Description - Maintenance Person

Maintenance Person – Gracedale, Auckland
Full-time | Aged Care & Retirement Living | HBH Group

Make a Real Difference Where It Matters Most

Are you a practical, hands-on person who enjoys variety and takes pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment? HBH Group is seeking an experienced Maintenance Person to join our dedicated team at Gracedale, a well-established aged care facility and retirement village in Mount Roskill, Auckland.

About Us:
HBH Group is a non-profit, faith-based organisation committed to enabling fuller lives for older people. Through our homes, care, and community services, we help seniors age well and live fully.

About the Role:
In this sole-charge role, you’ll be responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of the Gracedale buildings, grounds, equipment, and vehicles. You’ll ensure that our facilities are safe, functional, and visually appealing, supporting the wellbeing of our residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grounds maintenance: lawns, gardens, hedges, weed spraying, and outdoor cleaning.

  • General repairs, touch-ups, refurbishment of rooms, and small renovation projects.

  • Equipment and vehicle checks, basic servicing, and WOF management.

  • Daily response to maintenance requests across the site.

  • Waste and recycling management.

  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety audits and standards.

  • Coordinating contractors, purchasing supplies, and record-keeping.

  • Supporting resident outings with van driving (weekly).

What We’re Looking For:

  • 3–5 years’ experience in property or facilities maintenance.

  • Practical skills across general repairs, carpentry, painting, groundskeeping, and basic mechanical tasks.

  • Proactive, organised, and able to work independently.

  • A strong commitment to health and safety.

  • A respectful and compassionate approach towards older people.

  • Full NZ driver’s license (essential).

  • Trade certification and First Aid certificate (advantageous but not essential).

What We Offer:

  • A varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same.

  • Being part of a supportive and purpose-driven team.

  • Opportunities for training and development.

  • The chance to make a positive difference in the lives of older people.

Ready to Join Us?
If you’re practical, reliable, and looking for a role where your work really matters, we’d love to hear from you.
