New Zealand Starch Limited is seeking the services of a suitably qualified Maintenance Supervisor for our manufacturing facility located in Penrose Auckland.

New Zealand Starch Limited is the sole manufacturer of starch, glucose syrups, and other starch derivatives in New Zealand.

We are looking for a well-organized self-motivated individual with clear communication skills. You will be expected to take ownership of the upkeep of all plants and property. You will need to have strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. 

The ideal candidate will have had experience in a similar manufacturing environment with a proven track record. The ability to understand older equipment and methods, balanced with an appreciation of modern equipment and systems would prove valuable in this role.

About the role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will lead and develop the New Zealand Starch Maintenance team, coaching, and developing individuals as well as role-modeling a culture of continuous improvement and high standards of safety in keeping with New Zealand Starch core values.

Specifically, the role entails:

  • Managing the maintenance activities for the production process plant.
  • Leadership of a multi-skilled team including staff members and contractors
  • Team engagement; strong and effective communication with the operations team on site for collaborative and efficient business outcomes
  • Developing a team culture that ensures continuous improvement is adopted by all maintenance staff; maintaining operational and strategic plans for site maintenance
  • Preventative and planned maintenance: establish and monitor schedule, ensuring completion to timeframes/quality; includes regular reporting and completion to budget
  • Managing reactive work to reduce breakdowns and promote a preventive approach to maintenance 
  • Undertaking incident management and root-cause analysis
  • Provide details of breakdowns and repairs as they occur. To set and manage expenditures within the budget requirements and contribute to the financial success of the business. Monthly reporting of workshop activity required
  • To maintain the preventive Maintenance system on-site for engineering and services. 
  • Use of the MEX maintenance software as a management tool
  • Spare parts and consumables procurement and inventory management

Your experience

Our ideal candidate is a strong people leader, with exposure to budget management, and ideally holds a trade certificate in a relevant discipline (electrical, fitting/machining, boiler-making). You have experience in planning and scheduling maintenance activities. Experience in supervising a process maintenance workshop. Experience with MEX software would be an advantage.

Finally, you’ll have a strong continuous improvement mindset and demonstrated safety leadership behaviours. 

In addition to providing proof of working rights and suitable professional referees, preferred candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical.
