We have an excellent opportunity for a Management Accountant to join our Waikato Finance team. You’ll partner with our operational teams to prepare and finalise accurate financial reporting and analysis and help keep our projects on track and within budget, all while supporting safer, smarter delivery for our customers.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

As the Management Accountant, you’ll be a key link between our operational teams and the wider finance function. Based in an office environment with strong ties to our Managers and site teams, you’ll play an important part in ensuring our work is delivered safely, on time, and within budget. Your financial insight, reporting and commercial support will help drive better decision-making and strengthen the overall performance of the Waikato Region.
 

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

• Preparing monthly accounts and P&L reviews for the regional business units.

• Providing detailed job/department variance and margin analysis.

• Assisting departments with monthly profit forecasts and forward work reporting.

• Assist Regional Finance Manager to prepare annual budgets.

• Prepare and verify non-financial reporting data across Waikato Business units, enabling productivity reporting and measurement.

• Prepare ad hoc reports as required in a clear and timely manner, including financial statements, reconciliations and investigation, forecasts and other comparative reporting requirement.

• Inventory accounting including stock variance reports, cycle counts and inventory controls.

• Assist Regional Finance Manager with finalising the annual result, including supporting information and WIP reporting. 

• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and IRD requirements and participate in annual internal and external audits.

• Proactively deliver training to management, engineers, and contracting staff on all management reports and business tools.

• Support region’s capital reporting process, including capex forecasting and reporting actual spend relative to budget.

• Assisting with Accounts Payable processing, including raising and receipting purchase orders.

• Previous experience in a commercial, management or project accounting role.

• Accounting degree and/or CA qualification is advantageous but not essential.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Excellent communication skills across both verbal and written mediums

• Self-motivation and the ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks

• A practical, solutions-focused mindset with a strong attention to detail.

• Previous exposure to construction and maintenance programs of work would be an advantage but is not essential.
