Job Description - Manager Digital Workspace

  • Wellington based | Full-time | Permanent

  • 4.8 weeks annual leave | Wellness allowance after 12 months

  • Midpoint of $197,143 dependent on experience

Ko tōu ake mahi - What you’ll do

Step into a leadership role reporting to the CIO, where you’ll shape how an the Ministry of Health works, collaborates, and manages its most critical asset - information. This is a newly created role in a new function, offering the chance to shape the work, build the team’s approach, and bring a start-up mindset to delivery.

As Manager Digital Workplace, you’ll lead the evolution of a modern, secure, and intelligent digital environment powered by Microsoft 365. This is your opportunity to combine technical expertise, people leadership, and strategic thinking to enable smarter ways of working, drive safe AI adoption, and ensure information is trusted, accessible, and well-governed across the organisation.

  • Own and evolve the digital workplace ecosystem: Lead the end-to-end strategy and operation of Microsoft 365, collaboration tools, and information environments to enable seamless, modern ways of working.

  • Drive platform governance and performance: Oversee Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and core services—setting standards, optimising performance, and ensuring secure, well-governed collaboration.

  • Lead information management and compliance: Ensure records management practices aligned with the Public Records Act 2005, improving lifecycle management, findability, and information stewardship.

  • Enable secure, modern work environments: Manage identity (Entra ID), devices (Intune), and access controls to balance user flexibility with robust security, privacy, and compliance.

  • Champion adoption and innovation (including AI): Drive uptake of digital tools and safe AI use, lifting capability, improving knowledge sharing, and embedding continuous improvement across the Ministry.

Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you’ll bring

  • Relevant qualification or equivalent experience across information management, digital workplace, or cloud/platform administration and operation.

  • Demonstrated leadership, stakeholder engagement, and change delivery skills, with experience leading teams and driving enterprise platform adoption

  • Strong skill in information management practices such as architecture, metadata, lifecycle, and recordkeeping compliance

  • Strong customer service and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to understand Ministry needs and translate them into practical work programmes and priorities

  • Comfort working in a newly established function, with a start-up mindset and the ability to build, refine and improve ways of working

  • Ability to work with ambiguity, take initiative, and shape a new role over time

  • Strong technical understanding of the M365 platform and digital workplace solutions
