Moo te tuunga | About the role

We have an exciting new Marae Engagement Coordinator opportunity that will be responsible for the delivery of the marae aspirations of Waikato Tainui, as provided within Whakatupuranga 2050. 

You will work with our marae and hapuu to develop and implement initiatives around maintenance, infrastructure, and facilities. 

The newly created position will also ensure that all Waikato Tainui members, and the wider stakeholder community, receive the appropriate support on issues related to or impacting marae and their physical needs (e.g. water access, climate change, legislative change, insurance and endurability etc.). 

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop a strategic approach to the maintenance and build process for Marae
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with Marae to support their access to initiatives such as Marae Insurance, external funding and opportunities that align to Marae aspirations
  • Facilitate the Marae Insurance Renewal process as and when required, and support Marae in claiming, valuations and other insurance related initiatives   
  • Implement and/ or support joint Waikato Tainui and key stakeholder initiatives and projects related to Marae
  • Build relationships with stakeholders (e.g. tribal, regulatory authorities, community and commercial organisations) to enhance and enable Marae aspirations as set out in Marae development plans and strategies

 

Ngaa puumanawatanga oou | What you will bring

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or industry qualifications
  • Project management skills, with a track record of successfully managing and delivering projects and initiatives in an iwi, or Maaori context
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders and strategic partners (e.g. Government, Private Sector, Tribal – Members/ Marae/ Hapuu, Community and Non-Government Organisations)
  • Directly applicable experience in complex stakeholder and contract management, including dispute resolution and negotiations. Experience in the Insurance industry is desirable but not essential
  • Legislation and Government - working knowledge of government processes, familiarity with relevant legislation and regulations, and policy development
  • Strong IT skills who can pick up new systems quickly
  • Sound knowledge of Waikato-Tainui tikanga and proficiency or developing proficiency in te reo Maaori
