Job Description - Market Analyst & Business Development Lead

Humble Bee Bio is a deep-tech company that combines biomimicry, machine learning, and synthetic biology to scale a unique and valuable product platform. 

Purpose of role: Research and analyse market information to inform the company's commercial strategy. Leverage insights gained into business development opportunities and commercial partnerships.

Key responsibilities & tasks

Market Research:

  • Ensure market surveillance tools are configured and utilised effectively to gather, analyse and monitor competitor information, market data and trends. 
  • Monitor new and developing events in Humble Bee Bio’s research and the global chemicals and product markets to gain new insights into product development.
  • Research and quantify the size and location of our target markets and competitors, including acquisition and merger opportunities. 
  • Use data gleaned to recommend market strategies and commercial partnerships to the CEO & Board.
  • Engage, build relationships and work with the CEO to close commercial deals.
  • Identify and assess global industry events that may contribute to our business development and make recommendations regarding which events we should attend.

Business Development:

  • Work closely with the Technical Director and CEO to align R&D product outcomes with market needs and package data to secure commercial partnerships.
  • Proactively identify, generate, and contact leads through different sources to build, maintain and manage strong relationships.
  • Develop market strategies that assist the company in increasing its value, including product penetration strategies.
  • Identify and develop brand values to support market positioning.
  • Work with the Operations Team to configure and utilise tools to assist with managing commercial pipelines and leads.

People:

  • Contribute to the company’s culture by continually supporting the mission, vision, and purpose and actively living the core values.
  • Develop and maintain links and partnerships with industry and the wider community.
  • Build strong relationships with people in the business.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Self-driven with the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Highly organised and efficient.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Fast learner.
  • Strong, clear and concise written and verbal communication.
  • Strong curiosity for and comfort working in, areas of biotech previously unknown. 

Eligibility:

  • A proven track record of translating market research into business development success in a relevant field. 
  • A degree in Bioscience Enterprise or MBA is desirable.
  • Ideally, based in Wellington, NZ. However, we would consider remote work for the right candidate.
