We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our Mechanical Engineering team in Tauranga, working across a range of construction sites and our upcoming workshop.

Our work spans the water, wastewater, industrial services, and process infrastructure sectors, with strong integration across mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, and controls disciplines.

Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor, you’ll help assemble, install, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment across varied projects. From reading technical drawings and fitting components with precision, to fault finding, fabrication, and rebuilding equipment, this is a hands-on role that does Good Work and keeps things moving.

Key role responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, and align industrial machinery and mechanical equipment from technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance to keep plant and equipment operating safely and efficiently.

  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, and replace worn or faulty components including gearboxes, bearings, pumps, seals, shafts, and other mechanical parts.

  • Use precision measuring instruments and testing equipment to check tolerances, fit, alignment, and performance.

  • Test and calibrate machinery to ensure it meets operational requirements, relevant standards, and site expectations.

  • Carry out machining and fabrication tasks including grinding, milling, turning, basic welding, and pipefitting where required.

  • Identify faults, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and work with the wider team to minimise downtime.

  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and housekeeping in workshop and site environments.

  • Complete job records, maintenance documentation, and reporting accurately and on time.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors, engineers, and other trades to deliver reliable outcomes for our customers.

  • Support continuous improvement by identifying smarter, safer, and more efficient ways of working.

We’re looking for someone with

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a Mechanical Fitter / Welder in an industrial or engineering environment.

  • A New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Trade) Level 4, with a Fitting and Machining or Maintenance Engineering strand.

  • Good ability using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical fault-finding skills.

  • Ability to read and work from technical plans and drawings.

  • A proactive, team-focused approach.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • A good understanding of safe work practices.

  • The ability to carry out the inherent requirements of the role across workshop and site environments.

Good Work equals Good Benefits

  • KiwiSaver employer contributions

  • Fuel discount card

  • Parental leave top-up payment with additional return to work support

  • Family scholarships

  • Ongoing training and development, career growth and progression opportunities

  • Great discounts at a wide range of retailers

  • Medical insurance “an eligibility period applies”

  • Life insurance
