Metal Machinist - Job Summary

 As a Metal Machinist, you will specialize in operating, setting up, and maintaining manual and CNC metalworking machinery.

This role is essential across manufacturing, engineering, and construction sectors, ensuring the production of high-quality, precision metal components and assemblies. You will be responsible for ensuring consistency and accuracy in all machining operations while strictly adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Operation: Control and operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC centers to shape metal to precise specifications.
  • Setup & Calibration: Select and install cutting tools, adjusting speed and feed rates to achieve exact tolerances.
  • Precision Measurement: Use instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators to verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to plan machining sequences.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform preventative maintenance and resolve machine faults or process inefficiencies.
  • Fabrication & Assembly: Assemble machined parts into mechanical systems and use welding equipment (MIG, TIG, or arc) when required for modifications.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Certification: Recognized trade qualification as a Metal Machinist or at least three (3) years of relevant practical experience.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of machining techniques, metal behavior, and the use of diverse metalworking tools.
  • Detail Oriented: High level of precision in measurement and setup to ensure all parts meet required specifications.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy materials, and work in various workshop environments.
  • Requirements: Clear communication skills, a valid drivers license, and a commitment to workplace safety.
