Aroturuki Tamariki, the Independent Children’s Monitor, monitors the oranga tamariki system, providing insights that drive continuous improvement and improves outcomes for tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people), particularly tamariki Māori and children with disabilities.
Our Monitors / Senior Monitors are the public face of Aroturuki Tamariki. They work in teams, engaging with the community to understand and record the experience of whānau, tamariki and rangatahi, family, professionals, caregivers and others who work with those involved in the care and protection and/or youth justice pathways. We analyse what we hear from communities we visit, alongside the nationwide data and information we collect. We use this analysis to inform our reports.

Starting salaries are negotiated based on relevant skills and experience, our salary range for the Monitor role is $68,660 –$83,003. We expect to offer a starting salary of between $89,622 and $112,551 for the Senior Monitor role.
