Job Description - Natural Perils Specialist

In this role, you’ll play a key part in shaping how IAG NZ understands and responds to natural hazard risk across our brands. Your expertise will help bring complex data to life — turning insights into smarter pricing, better decisions, and stronger outcomes for our customers and communities. 


You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business, using your analytical skills and natural perils knowledge to influence strategy and ensure our products remain sustainable, fair, and future focused. This is a chance to make a real impact in an organisation that’s committed to helping people and businesses recover from the unexpected. This is a permanent full-time role based in multiple locations across Aotearoa New Zealand. 
 



Ngā Mahi Hei Whakatutuki Māu | What You'll Do 


 
• Lead the development, enhancement, and maintenance of technical pricing models, including integrating natural perils models. 
• Provide analytical expertise for reinsurance allocations, accumulation measurement, rate adequacy, claims inflation, and other core pricing activities. 
• Strengthen pricing methodologies and data quality by ensuring robust data management, reliable analysis techniques, and thorough peer review processes. 
• Drive prioritisation and timely delivery of natural perils–related pricing work. 
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure aligned, effective decision making. 
• Foster collaboration across the pricing function to promote consistency, shared learning, and collective success. 
• Guide and support technical pricing analysts, contributing to a culture of growth, high performance, and continuous improvement. 
 


 



Ōu Pūkenga me ōu Wheako | What You'll Bring 


 
• 5+ years of hands-on technical analytical experience, ideally within insurance pricing or advanced analytics 
• Strong experience applying natural perils models—such as earthquake, flood, and storm modelling—within the New Zealand risk environment. 
• Proficient programming skills, particularly in SAS, SQL, or R, with the ability to build, automate, and enhance analytical tools 
• Skilled in working with complex datasets, including sourcing, cleaning, and integrating data from both modern and legacy systems. 
• Confident stakeholder manager, able to communicate insights clearly and build strong working relationships. 
• Demonstrated technical and situational leadership, with the ability to guide others and influence outcomes effectively.
