At Hamilton City Council, our purpose is to improve the wellbeing of Hamiltonians. We’re looking for a Network Inspector to join our Infrastructure and Assets team and help ensure our transport network is safe, reliable, and performing at its best for our community.

Job Description

He angituutanga: The opportunity 

Reporting to the Asset & Planning Manager, you’ll play a key role as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the network, ensuring we maintain a clear, accurate picture of asset condition across our transport network.

Working as part of the Asset Management and Delivery team, you’ll coordinate and deliver network inspections, identify faults, and support the delivery of maintenance programmes across the contract area.

This is a hands-on, field-based role where your work directly supports smart investment decisions and long-term asset performance.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will:

  • Carry out network inspections and identify defects across the transport network
  • Record and manage faults using Asset & Work Manager (AWM)/ AWM Tablets
  • Analyse asset condition and recommend appropriate treatment solutions for long-term value
  • Investigate and submit reports on to Customer complaints received in relation to Transport Asset.
  • Support maintenance planning, programmes, and claims
  • Provide project support across network operations and contracts
  • Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver works effectively
  • Monitor contract compliance and assist with pricing and quotations
  • Ensure all asset data and changes are accurately captured in
  • Champion a Zero Harm culture through safe, quality-focused practices

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who can combine technical thinking with strong field awareness and collaboration.

You’ll have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering (or similar)
  • Experience in asset management, network maintenance, roading, or civil construction (preferred)
  • Proven ability in network inspection and fault identification/treatment selection
  • Experience working in a Zero Harm environment
  • Confidence using AWM (or similar systems) and field technology
