Reporting to the Operations Manager of the recently refurbished Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), the Night Shift Supervisor  will oversee all aspects of production, ensuring that their team meets production and quality goals, whilst maintaining a safe working and healthy work environment. 

About the role:

  • Supervision and Leadership - Lead, train, and motivate a team of MRF operators, sorters, and equipment operators.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards
  • Monitor and manage the daily operations of the MRF during the day shift.
  • Monitoring production processes to ensure that they are being followed correctly.
  • Coordinate and schedule work tasks to maximise efficiency and productivity.
  • Coordinating with managers to hire new employees when needed.
  • Supervising and training employees to ensure that they are performing their jobs correctly.
  • Making sure that all equipment is working properly, and ensuring maintenance are constantly informed of any issues.
  • Ensuring that employees have the training and equipment necessary to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Training workers on new equipment or processes before they are implemented.
  • Scheduling work shifts to ensure that the facility has adequate staffing levels during all hours of operation.
  • Overseeing the production process to ensure efficient operation of equipment.
  • Ensures quality objectives are met.
  • Supports the Plant Manager ensuring the plant is within the EPA, Council & Worksafe guidelines.
  • Ensures a high level of housekeeping for the site.
  • Ensures compliance to daily operational checks, insurance checks etc.
  • Conduct daily toolboxes.
  • Conduct shift changeover meetings in the absence of the Plant Manager.
  • Supervision of shift staff, and responding to people management queries including performance management, managing absenteeism.
  • Identifying training needs, coaching, and training staff to upskill.

About you:

  • 9 pm to 5 am. Mon - Fri.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements such as, prolonged physical exertions including, standing, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop team members.
  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Previous experience in waste management, recycling, or MRF operations is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot MRF equipment.
  • Proficiency in computer applications for reporting and documentation.
  • Flexibility to work weekends or overtime as needed.
  • Previous experience in waste management, recycling, or MRF operations is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Good understanding of te ao Maori and /or the right approach to learn and enhance your knowledge
