Job Description - Nurse Educator Role

Are you a New Zealand Registered Nurse or health professional that is authorised to vaccinate and has excellent communication and mentoring skills to support the delivery of immunisations, health screening and services across the Northern Region (Te Tai Tokerau – Northland and Tamaki Makaurau – Auckland).

 The Role:

This role will either be based in Auckland (Greenlane or Manukau) or Northland (multiple locations). It is a 2 year fixed-term contract until 30 June 2026. The Client will consider Fulltime or Job Share . This role will ensure a high quality immunisation service through planning, education and co-ordination. The Nurse Educator will deliver services in accordance with specifications and standards set by the Ministry of Health and the Immunisation Advisory centre (IMAC) whilst providing a cultural lense on best practice of service delivery.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Co-design and implement a sustainable support programme in the Northern region incorporating health promotion approaches utilising Te Pae Māhutonga framework.
  • Support the expansion of the clinical assessor workforce across the Northern Region within Hauora Māori Partners and Pacific Providers.
  • Assist the Māori, Pacific and other community immunisation service providers with strategies aimed at maintaining immunisation coverage and achieving equity across all immunisation targets.
  • Support and broaden knowledge to a range of health services to provide a holistic whanau centred approach
  • To work towards improving the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders by assisting immunisation service providers to increase immunisation coverage rates for all vaccine preventable diseases in the event of epidemics or pandemics or catchup campaigns.
  • Provide troubleshooting advice for cold chain issues. Where there are serious cold chain issues the Nurse Educator will work closely with the Medical Officer of Health, the local immunisation coordinator and MoH to achieve an appropriate outcome.
  • To ensure that vaccinators and the public are provided with up-to-date, evidence-based information to assist them in their decision-making regarding immunisation services.
  • Work with all relevant stakeholders including the Ministry of health, Medical Officer of Health, PHOs, Public Health/Population Health, Community Māori and Pacific providers, Hospital & Specialist Services, community pharmacies and IMAC, where and as appropriate

The Successful Candidate:

  • A fully authorised vaccinator with experience vaccinating children under 3 years
  • An experienced clinical assessor or willingness to work towards this qualification
  • Commit to a 2 year contract
  • Experience in working in a Kaupapa Māori and Pacific health setting with a strong cultural focus and understanding.
  • Experience working in an adult education role, such as patient or health professional education
  • Strong working experience and knowledge of the Te Whatu Ora – National Immunisation Programme,
  • To be a strong team player, with ability to work remotely effectively, adapt to change, fast past environments, and be open to feedback
  • A full New Zealand Drivers License as local/regional travel is required
