Job Description - Nurse Lead

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the nursing team at our two Taranaki practices – Central Medical Centre (New Plymouth) and Moa Medical Centre (Inglewood). This role has operational and clinical accountability to lead and manage all aspects of our nursing team and forms part of the Practice Management team. This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (no night or weekend work).


As our Nurse Lead, you’ll be a key part of the team, guiding, mentoring and supporting other nurses, while also staying hands-on in patient care. You’ll help keep things running smoothly, bringing forward ideas for improving how we do things, and making sure we’re always putting patients first.


You will work closely with our GPs and practice team to ensure the best outcomes for our patients while fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment. We are looking for someone who is up for a challenge and can take the role and make it their own.

  • You’re a registered Nurse with current NZ annual practising certificate and solid experience

  • You have independent vaccinator & cervical smear taker certifications

  • You have previous leadership experience and mentoring skills

  • You have experience within the Primary Health Care sector

  • You’re great at staying calm under pressure, organised and approachable

  • You care deeply about patient safety and quality of care

  • You enjoy helping others grow and thrive in their roles

  • You’re flexible, adaptable and thrive in a busy team environment

  • You are proficient in computers, with experience using PMS and Microsoft Office

  • You have excellent communication skills and a good sense of humour

  • You have an understanding of the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori and other cultural competencies.
