The Role

We are looking for an experienced Ocean Freight Operations Senior Manager

 to join our team in Auckland, New Zealand. In this role, you will lead end‑to‑end ocean freight operations across import, export, domestic movements, and operational finance. This role is accountable for driving operational excellence, profitability, and regulatory compliance while maintaining high service standards. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the Senior Manager leads and develops a high‑performing team to support sustainable business growth.

As the Ocean Freight Operations Senior Manager, you will:

• Lead and develop the Ocean Freight Operations team, ensuring delivery against service standards, operational KPIs, talent development, and employee engagement.
• Manage end‑to‑end ocean freight operations, including shipment coordination, documentation, customs clearance, transport, system accuracy, issue resolution, and smooth cargo flow through internal and external stakeholder collaboration.
• Ensure full regulatory, legislative, and contractual compliance, including adherence to international and local maritime regulations, company policies, and client obligations.
• Own operational financial performance, including job profitability, revenue capture, cost control, invoicing accuracy, financial reporting, and creditor approvals, in partnership with finance and commercial teams.
• Drive continuous improvement across ocean operations, identifying process efficiencies, reducing costs, and supporting scalable, high‑quality service delivery.
• Support client onboarding and governance, including implementation planning, SOP development, stakeholder engagement, and regular operational reporting to senior management.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Significant ocean freight and forwarding experience, with a minimum of five years in the industry and proven capability in supervisory or managerial leadership roles.
• Strong technical knowledge of international shipping operations, including customs, quarantine requirements, and freight documentation across multiple jurisdictions.
• High capability in freight management systems and business tools, including proficiency in freight platforms and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills, enabling effective team management, stakeholder engagement, and operational decision‑making.
• Ability to perform under pressure while managing competing priorities, maintaining accuracy, compliance, and attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment.
• Customer‑focused, proactive mindset, demonstrating a strong commitment to service delivery, compliance, and driving operational excellence.
