As part of the Integrity and Conduct Group, The National Integrity Unit (NIU) undertakes specialist investigations into criminal behaviour, corruption and related employment matters involving Police staff that fit within the NIU’s scope and purpose, and is a leading voice in the prevention of corruption and insider threats.

The NIU seeks an Open Source Intelligence Analyst to join its Data and Information team based in Wellington or Auckland. As an OSINT Analyst you will provide specialist support to Senior Integrity Investigators to enable fact-finding and investigative activities in criminal and employment investigations. You will excel in collating information from a wide variety of sources, including social media, and will produce intelligence for investigations.. You will take pride in clearly and concisely communicating your findings.   

You will use your skills, knowledge, and experience to coach others on best practice Intelligence tradecraft, support team development, and foster a positive and productive team culture. While technical skills are important to us, team fit is just as important for this role. You will be working in an open-plan, collaborative environment with a diverse range of individuals.

Key Accountabilities:

• Provide short-turnaround initial assessment of matters referred to NIU


• Use strong written and verbal communication skills to provide a high standard of written reports and clear and concise verbal briefings to a wide range of audiences


• Develop and maintain a wide variety of positive working relationships, both internally and externally


• Use critical thinking skills to challenge the status quo and test alternative hypotheses


• Identify thematic integrity-related risks and collaborate on reporting to the Integrity and Conduct Group Senior Leadership Team


• Lead by influence with a committed, positive attitude towards teamwork, coaching and professional development

• On occasion, be available to work outside of normal business hours and be willing to travel domestically (sometimes at short notice)


• A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products is essential; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is desirable but not critical


• Knowledge of the Critical Pathway to Insider Risk is desirable but not critical


• Some travel may be required

Security Clearance Requirements   

To be eligible for this role, you must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET SPECIAL national security clearance. 

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 15 years, or: 

• A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 15 years, or


• A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 15 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau | Salary 

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $88,179 and $92,267 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
