The Operational Compliance team forms part of the Risk business unit and works closely with the rest of the organisation, as well as with a number of external parties and peer funds to ensure Guardians’ activities are consistent with current best practice. 

The monitoring role is responsible for investment mandate compliance for both our external and internal investment mandates, through interactions with our custodian and our investment management system. There are also responsibilities for managing internal compliance for our personal trading and attestation processes.

This role will provides an opportunity to anyone looking to progress their career in a risk discipline, with exposure to employees at all levels of the Guardians. If you have had experience in a service, operational, or compliance function, either with a systems and monitoring focus, then this role will provides an opportunity to grow your career, within a dedicated team, supporting operational compliance across the fund. 

  • Maintain external manager monitoring frameworks, ensuring compliance with prudential limits and reporting requirements in accordance with contractual arrangements, and keep the Northern Trust compliance system informed of all changes to external mandates.
  • Ensure internal trade activity is compliant with mandates and maintain the pre-trade compliance rules and internal mandate compliance rules in Bloomberg AIM
  • Maintain the staff control list for personal trading, authorise trades where appropriate and check trade records against six-monthly staff attestations.
  • Provide access to, and administration for, key banking cash management systems.
  • Deliver systems compliance administration for trade management (Bloomberg AIM) and settlement systems.
  • Undertake and verify Standard Settlement Instructions and Global Cash Management (GCM) set-ups.
  • Support the Operational Compliance Analyst – Systems in achieving their responsibilities.
  • Understand and comply with all Guardians’ policies and procedures, including those relating to risk management and compliance practices.
  • Demonstrate appropriate knowledge and use of all Guardians’ systems and processes.

  • Good understanding of trade flow end-to-end requirements.
  • Ability to manage and track multiple tasks. 
  • Knowledge of operational compliance needs - in any function or industry
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collegial, constructive approach, including the ability to foster both internal and external relationships.
