About the role

You will supervise the day-to-day operation of the Dunedin depot to ensure efficient, compliant and safe freight handling and delivery. You will coordinate drivers, contractors and store staff, maintain service standards, and ensure all processes meet company and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

· Plan and coordinate daily delivery and pick-up schedules

· Ensure all consignments, manifests and PODs are accurate and entered in systems

· Monitor depot operations to meet KPIs and SLAs, including DIFOT (target 98%)

· Ensure delivery runs and linehaul depart on time

· Oversee freight handling to maintain cold-chain integrity and prevent damage

· Investigate delivery issues and implement improvements

· Monitor chiller and freezer temperatures and arrange servicing as required

· Maintain fleet and plant, ensuring WoF, registration and servicing are current

· Communicate with customers, depots, contractors and internal teams

· Provide clear shift handovers and maintain operational continuity

· Step in to drive when required

People leadership

· Supervise, roster and support operational staff

· Coach, train and develop team capability

· Support recruitment and performance management

· Monitor productivity and improve utilisation of staff and resources

Compliance and safety

· Ensure compliance with food safety standards, MPI and regulatory requirements

· Maintain HACCP and food safety programmes

· Enforce health and safety standards, including reporting and hazard management

· Run toolbox meetings and support safety initiatives

· Ensure depot cleanliness and safe equipment use

What you’ll bring:

You are a practical leader with strong operational experience in transport, logistics or warehousing. You are organised, decisive and comfortable managing people and performance in a fast-paced environment.

Key skills and experience

· Proven experience in a transport, logistics or depot operations role

· Experience leading teams and managing shift-based operations

· Strong understanding of cold-chain or food-grade logistics (preferred)

· Ability to manage KPIs, analyse performance and drive improvements

· Knowledge of health and safety, food safety and compliance requirements

· Strong communication skills with customers and internal stakeholders

· High attention to detail across systems, documentation and processes

· Problem-solving approach with a focus on outcomes

Requirements

· Relevant licences and willingness to drive when required

· Availability for shift work

· Ability to operate in a hands-on leadership role
