As an Oral Health Therapist, you will be integral to providing essential dental care with a focus on preventive and therapeutic services. You will work closely with a diverse group of patients, promoting oral health and providing treatment for a wide range of dental conditions. This role combines the skills of a dental hygienist and a dental therapist, offering an opportunity to work within both scopes of practice.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct dental examinations and assess oral health conditions.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients.
- Perform clinical dental hygiene procedures such as scaling, root planning, and applying topical fluorides and sealants.
- Provide restorative dental treatments under the prescription of a dentist.
- Take and interpret dental radiographs.
- Using 3D scans of patients' teeth to create treatment plans and presenting these to our dental professionals for review.
- Conducting patient consultations and explaining the treatment process, including costs, timelines, and expected outcomes.
- Educate patients on maintaining optimal oral health.
- Maintain patient records with accurate documentation of treatments and care.
- Work collaboratively with dentists, dental assistants, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive dental care.
- Assisting patients with payment and financial arrangements for their treatment.
- Performing general administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and answering phone and email inquiries.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Oral Health or equivalent, recognized by the New Zealand Dental Council.
- Current registration with the New Zealand Dental Council as an Oral Health Therapist.
- Proficient in using modern dental software and radiographic equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to continuing education and professional development.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain organized in a busy environment.
- Experience in both pediatric and adult dentistry is preferred.
