Job Description - Peer Services Team Leader


  • Permanent Full Time Position (40hrs)

  • Based at Comcare’s Madras Street Office

Comcare is an established Mental Health and Housing provider assisting people with mental health or addiction issues to live well in the community. We provide a rich and diverse range of Mental Health Support Services, Housing and Housing Support Services.



Our Peer Services team delivers lived experience and recovery-focused support through Peer Support, Programme Facilitation, and Consumer Advocacy, promoting empowerment, inclusion, and self-determination.



About this role 


The Peer Services Team Leader provides day-to-day leadership, coordination, and professional development of a diverse team delivering peer-led recovery and advocacy services. You’ll ensure high-quality, client-centred services that reflect recovery principles, trauma-informed practice, and peer support values. This role fosters a collaborative team culture and works closely with stakeholders to support service development and effective delivery.



What you’ll be doing



  • Lead and coordinate Peer Services, including Peer Support, Programme Facilitation, and Consumer Advocacy.

  • Provide operational oversight to ensure services meet contractual and regulatory requirements.

  • Support staff through supervision, mentoring, and professional development.

  • Build strong relationships with clients, whānau, community, and external partners.

  • Promote continuous improvement and ensure compliance with policies and quality standards.

  • Assist with contract management, reporting, and budget monitoring.



About you


To be successful in this role, ideally you will have:



  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in mental health or a related field, with team or operational leadership responsibilities.

  • Proven experience and knowledge of mental health and social service support systems.

  • A tertiary qualification in a mental health-related discipline is desirable; however, the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4 – Mental Health and Addiction Support, combined with substantial work experience, will be considered.

  • Understanding of peer support principles and their application in service delivery.

  • Lived experience of mental distress and/or addiction, and the ability to use this experience intentionally to support others and inform team practice.

  • Commitment to reflective practice and modelling recovery-oriented values in leadership.

  • Cultural awareness and a demonstrable commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

  • Strong organisational and time management and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and uphold strong work ethics.

  • A valid, current, full NZ driver’s licence.

  • A positive outlook and a genuine passion for supporting others.
