People & Culture Business Partner

The role

Reporting to the South Island Operations Manager, you'll be the trusted people and culture partner to operational leaders across the region, providing practical, people-focused advice and hands-on support across the full employee lifecycle

This is a true business partnering role—embedded in operations, connected to the field, and aligned with strategic priorities. You’ll play a key role in supporting our diverse team of leaders and employees to build engaged, high-performing teams, while helping us continue to deliver an exceptional employee experience.

You’ll work across a wide variety of generalist areas, including employment relations, recruitment, onboarding, performance and development, change management, and culture initiatives. It’s fast-paced, people-focused, and rich in opportunity to stretch your skills and grow your impact.

Key responsibilities include:

• Build strong relationships with leaders across the business to understand operational priorities and provide practical, fit-for-purpose people and culture advice.


• Support and coach leaders to make sound, values-aligned people decisions and develop confidence in managing people matters.


• Act as a trusted partner and sounding board on employee matters, engagement, and culture


• Support with the end to end People and Culture functions from recruitment and onboarding to offboarding


• Providing accurate ER advice to manage risk and drive high performance outcomes


• Support career progression and succession planning initiatives. Including identifying development needs and collaborating on learning opportunities to lift leadership and team capability.


• Ensuring the business is aware of all relevant legislative requirements and is compliant


• Support performance management activities to enhance and improve employee performance


• Ensuring accurate record keeping and HR documentation within Civtec’s HRIS system

To be successful in this role, we are seeking candidates with:

• Previous People and Culture generalist work experience


• A relevant tertiary qualification in HR or similar is desirable.


• Knowledge of NZ employment law


• The ability to build strong working relationships


• A flexible approach to working, who can problem solve and offer practical solutions


• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence

Your ability to prioritise is second to none and you have a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

For the right candidate, we are open to considering part-time (e.g. 4 days per week or reduced hours).
