Ko wai mātou - About OSPRI
OSPRI is an integrated national disease management agency and a proud part of New Zealand’s agricultural sector. We play an important part in protecting New Zealand’s biosecurity system. OSPRI currently manages three major national programmes: TBfree (directed at the eradication of bovine tuberculosis), M.bovis (OSPRI manages the Mycoplasma bovis programme under a government industry agreement) and NAIT (National Animal Identification and Tracing System).

The People and Culture Manager is a pivotal and highly valued role within OSPRI. Reporting to the General Manager, People, you will be at the forefront, leading the People and Culture team to deliver exceptional people support and outcomes and ensuring our People Strategy is delivered.
You will play a crucial role in proactively supporting all aspects of operational HR and culture initiatives, covering the full spectrum of activities across the employee life cycle. This role leads a small and passionate team of three to enable the delivery of the operational program of work and maintain OSPRI employment processes and legislative requirements. Your ability to work in close collaboration with the General Manager, People will be fundamental to the success of the team.
This role is also responsible for maintaining high levels of employee experience, actively role-modelling OSPRI values, and fostering a human-centred culture supported by integrity and commitment to deliver excellent performance. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring our priorities are aligned with OSPRI’s wider business goals, contributing to the creation of a productive and engaged culture.
Your responsibilities will include developing, implementing, and reviewing our Employee Experience processes to ensure OSPRI is an employer of choice and is able to attract, recruit, grow, and retain high-performing talent across the organisation. We are seeking an excellent and engaging HR Generalist who has great experience across all aspects of HR, including people leadership. You will embody the team's core values and contribute to its growth and development. This is an exciting opportunity to drive positive change across the organisation and make a real difference in the lives of our people.
A solid working understanding of NZ employment law is essential for this role. Your practical knowledge and expertise in this area will ensure compliance and help OSPRI navigate the complex legal landscape. You will have a strong customer focus, building strong and authentic relationships across all of OSPRI, and your style and approach will make a positive cultural impact. You will be a natural problem solver, continually adapting and anticipating where improvements and opportunities exist to add value. Data is your friend, and you understand the importance of data to present information and support solutions.
You will possess a collaborative working style, be a team player, and an excellent coach. Your communication and presentation skills will be to a high standard, including your written abilities, where you can adapt the content to suit the audience. You will be self-organised, and delivery focussed ensuring that under your leadership and guidance, the People and Culture work programme is delivered to a high standard.
