Job Purpose:

The People, Finance and Operations team provides efficient operational support to the organisation in the areas of finance, people and culture, human resources, data services, office maintenance, IT systems, legal, risk and compliance. We strive to be an approachable, high performance, ‘can do’ team that provides solutions, advice and systems that enable our people to focus on our organisation's overarching mission. The role plays a pivotal part in supporting Oxfam Aotearoa’s initiatives, making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need and advancing the organisation’s mission for a more just and equitable world.

The People and Finance Lead is accountable for the operational delivery, integrity, compliance and continuous improvement of People and Finance systems, reporting, and controls.

Working closely with the Head of People, Finance and Operations, the role translates strategy into effective systems, policies, and operational practices, ensuring consistent, compliant delivery across the organisation.

The role builds organisational capability and ensures that systems and processes support organisational performance.

Competencies:

Essential

• Strong experience in financial management, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting


• Experience maintaining financial controls, audit readiness, and compliance frameworks


• Experience supporting audit processes and Board or Committee reporting


• Strong analytical capability with the ability to translate data into actionable insights


• Experience improving and managing systems and processes


• Working knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and HR practices sufficient to ensure compliance and provide operational advice


• Strong understanding of risk, compliance, and governance requirements


• Proficiency in Excel and experience with financial, payroll, and HR systems


• Strong communication skills

• Ability to manage competing priorities and operate effectively in a complex environment

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience

• Experience in the not-for-profit, NGO, or international development sector


• Experience with donor-funded environments and reporting requirements


• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive organisational practice

The post attracts a starting salary of $73,034 pro rata per annum (where one full-time equivalent is $91,293) (dependent on experience).
