The opportunity

We have a unique opportunity for an experienced people and culture business partner or senior adviser to join our collaborative, high performing P&C team for 10-12 months, ideally joining from early July.  We're looking for someone available 20-25 hours and have some flexibility in how the hours are spread across a week. Given the nature of the role, you will be based in our Auckland office in the HSBC tower.

The role

Reporting to the national people and culture manager, you'll be a key part of empowering our people to be extraordinary and delivering on our purpose of helping our clients be part of a more successful Aotearoa.  In this role you can expect a blend of hands-on execution and strategic thinking, plenty of variety, to be challenged and add value.  You will achieve this primarily through business partnering with a group of our Auckland partners, working with them to strategize, plan and act to strengthen their teams.  There will also be opportunity to get involved in a range of national people and culture initiatives, from promotions or employee engagement to safety and wellbeing or diversity and inclusion.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with business leaders to understand the people-related needs of their areas and provide solutions and strategy to meet those requirements
  • Supporting key people and culture projects and initiatives
  • Engaging with employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and improve productivity and retention
  • Supporting recruitment and succession planning processes
  • Providing guidance and coaching on performance management and development processes and any employment relations concerns
  • Strong communication skills – having the ability to convey sometimes tricky ideas to a broad range of people.

What matters to us

We value people who are passionate, curious, innovative and bring a different perspective.  Your ability to build trust quickly, connect and collaborate with people at all levels, and communicate your expertise on people and culture best practice will be key to your success.  In addition to having proven experience, you will be commercially savvy and have the ability to think strategically in a fast-paced environment.  Having worked in a partnership or owner-operated business previously would be beneficial but not required.
