Company Description

Ko wai mātou - About us:

Hato Hone St John has been serving New Zealanders and working to save lives since 1885. As well as providing Ambulance Services, our programmes and team of over 11,000 staff and volunteers are helping to build strong, resilient communities across the motu.

Be part of something new. Help us transform the way we use people data.

The People Data & Insights team (PD&I) are beginning a transformational journey. With a complex legacy system and plenty of historical data challenges, we’ve laid the groundwork through building a data dictionary and defining key data fields. Now we’re ready for the next step and this is where you come in.

Job Description

He aha te tūranga - About the role:

As our Reporting Analyst, you’ll be the storyteller of our People Data & Insights team. While the People Data Analyst focuses on back-end data quality and integrity, you’ll turn that trusted data into visuals, meaningful analysis and insights the business can act on.  Together, you’ll ensure our organisation can trust its people data and use it to drive smarter decisions.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will:

  • Be primary point of contact for the organisation for HRIS enquiries around people data & reporting requirements. Cataloguing of reporting requests and their delivery, either manually or via a tool, to ensure we can analyse where our effort is being spent.
  • Develop and maintain engaging reports, commentary and dashboards using Power BI (or similar visual reporting toolset)
  • Consolidate and prioritise customer requirements into consistent, scalable reporting solutions.
  • Translate complex data into meaningful analysis and actionable insights.
  • Partner with managers and stakeholders to grow their understanding and confidence in using data.
  • Collaborate with the People Data Analyst to ensure data accuracy and consistency in all reporting.

Why this role is exciting

  • You’ll join at the start of our data transformation — a rare chance to shape and own something from the ground up.
  • You’ll have the freedom and space to experiment, problem-solve, and bring fresh ideas.
  • You’ll gain exposure to the latest thinking in people data, including opportunities to explore AI applications currently under development – exciting times!

Qualifications

Ko wai koe - About you:

If you’re a self-starter who’s excited by the idea of building something new and meaningful, this could be the role for you. We’re unpacking historical complexities and building new capability — and we’re looking for someone who loves the challenge as much as the reward. Skills & experience we require include:

  • Confident user of SSRS, SQL Server and related database technologies.
  • Intermediate/Advanced user of Power BI or other similar visual reporting toolset.
  • Skills for turning numbers into narratives that resonate with non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to balance stakeholder needs, prioritise effectively, and challenge when required.
  • Proven experience driving improvements, demonstrated through curiosity, proactive exploration of data and processes, and the ability to identify trends and opportunities for enhancement.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and a passion for making data meaningful and compelling.
