The Policy and Te Tiriti He Pou Rarama branch provides strategic leadership across policy, legal services, inquiries and commissions, partnerships, and Te Tiriti capability. The branch supports government priorities through high-quality policy advice, trusted legal expertise, effective relationships, and oversight of commissions and inquiries across a diverse portfolio including gambling and racing, media content and online safety, digital identity, and community affairs.


The role | Te tūnga  


This is an exciting opportunity to provide high-quality, confidential executive support to our Chief Legal Advisor and General Manager Policy, while also supporting the Director of Policy and Director of Commissions.


We're looking for a proactive, highly organised professional who can see the big picture, connect information quickly, exercise sound judgement, and anticipate the needs of senior leaders in a fast-paced environment. You'll ensure the Chief Legal Advisor and General Manager Policy are well prepared for meetings, key engagements, and competing priorities through effective diary management, coordination, and forward planning.


You'll build strong working relationships with people across Te Tari Taiwhenua and partner agencies, acting as a trusted point of contact for senior leaders. Managing changing priorities with confidence, you'll coordinate workflows, prepare meeting papers and briefings, and ensure everything is in place to support informed decision-making and the smooth running of the leadership team.  


The appointing range for this role is $61,000 - $76,000.   


What you bring | Nōu te rourou  



  • Proven success providing Personal Assistant or Senior Administrative support to a Senior Leader/s, preferably within the public sector.  

  • Confidence working with MS office programmes 

  • Ability to prioritise workloads and negotiate deadlines in the face of competing demands.  

  • Well-developed relationship-building skills and the ability to communicate with senior stakeholders. 

  • Experience in managing invoices ensuring expenses are tracked and managed within budget. 

  • Solid written communication skills, having had experience producing meeting papers, agenda, minutes and action tracking.
