The Nitty Gritty

Variety will be the hallmark of your work. One day you’ll be working on a story about a new cardiac surgery program; the next, you’ll be poring through outcome statistics with the marketing folks to whip up something for the recruitment page. What you bring to all these processes is a deep design sensibility coupled with the technical know-how to do great work in a highly specialized field.

Of course, you’re gifted in the Art of Photoshop — and being skilled at InDesign and other design/editing software will earn you a fair amount of bonus points, too. Ultimately though, photo-editing is your thing — especially editing humans (not the actual humans, the photos of the humans).

Experience working in an ad agency, editorial department or a similarly deadline-driven organization is a big plus, though consideration would also be given to an up and comer who is well-versed in the tools and eager to dive in as well.

The thing that everybody says about you is that you get things done. While you don’t shy away from asking dumb questions, neither do you wait around for somebody smarter to make stuff for you. Thing is, you figure out a way, and that’s why you’re so genuinely versatile in terms of what you can build.

It doesn’t really matter what your background is, as long as you can show that photo editing is your thing, that you’ve done a great deal and a great variety of it, at high quality. And, obviously, the more medical content you’ve produced, the more brightly shall the heavens smile down upon you.
