Te Tiriti o Waitangi is the founding document which defines the relationship between Māori and the Crown in Aotearoa New Zealand. It affirms both tangata whenua status of whānau, hapū, and iwi in Aotearoa New Zealand, and their rights to citizenship. Te Tiriti o Waitangi provides a basis through which Māori may critically analyze relationships, challenge the status quo, and affirm Māori rights.
At Arowhenua Whānau Services our purpose is to ensure that the needs of Māori living in the Takiwā of Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua are responded to in an appropriate way by bringing whānau, hapū, iwi, and Māori community development into a relationship with health, social services and education provision.

Mō te tūranga | About the role
Piripono – Tō tātou piripono ki a tātou taiohi loosely translated as Piripono, meaning commitment and “Our commitment to our next generation, our young people”. The Attendance and Engagement service works alongside rangatahi and their whānau. Formerly known as the “Truancy Service”, the team has recently rebranded itself shifting away from the negative connotations associated with the previous model and is currently reshaping its service to highlight the positive mahi that is being done within the team and comes as we introduce the Piripono Kaimahi/Kaitautoko (engagement and prevention team) who are responsible for driving evaluation and engagement strategies to improve regular attendance in kura.
As the Piripono Kaihautū, you will provide supportive leadership and guidance to the Piripono Kaimahi and Kaitautoko, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of everyone whilst providing regular coaching and mentoring to your team.
This is a leadership role where you can make a difference to rangatahi, support in improving practices, and implement plans and programs for our young people.
Working days are Monday to Friday, 8.30 am - 5.00 pm.
