Power BI & Automation Specialist
Make a real impact with automation, reporting, and practical AI
Ritchies is New Zealand’s largest bus and coach operator, and we’re accelerating our digital transformation across operations, finance, commercial and health & safety.
We’re looking for a hands-on Power BI and Automation Specialist who can quickly identify opportunities, build solutions end-to-end, and deliver measurable outcomes; time saved, reduced rework, better visibility, and improved productivity.
This role suits someone who is confident working independently, can engage stakeholders well, and enjoys shipping practical solutions that stick.
What you’ll be doing
Automation & digital process improvement
- Identify and prioritise opportunities to digitise and automate manual processes across the business.
- Design, build, test and deploy solutions using Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint and Dataverse.
- Maintain a clear delivery pipeline (intake → triage → prioritisation → delivery → benefits tracking).
- Produce fit-for-purpose documentation including process maps, user guides and support handover materials.
Power BI reporting & decision support
- Deliver trusted dashboards and reporting aligned to agreed KPI definitions and “single source of truth” data.
- Build and manage semantic models, Power Query transformations, DAX measures, refresh processes and access controls.
- Partner with data owners/system SMEs to lift data quality and ensure reporting is reliable and action oriented.
- Enable self-service reporting through templates, guidance and governance guardrails.
Practical AI adoption
- Identify high-value use cases for Microsoft Copilot and approved AI tools and embed them into everyday workflows.
- Support governance: acceptable use, privacy/security, data handling, licensing and permissions hygiene.
- Prototype low-risk AI-enabled solutions (e.g., Copilot Studio copilots/agents, AI-assisted workflow steps).
- Create practical enablement materials (prompting guides, playbooks, quick reference resources).
Change, training & adoption
- Deliver training tailored for depot environments and mixed digital capability teams.
- Provide hands-on support during rollout and stabilisation.
- Champion modern workplace practices and continuous improvement.
What success looks like
You’ll be successful in this role if you can deliver:
- Quantified automation outcomes (time saved, fewer errors, shorter cycle times).
- Power BI dashboards and reports that are actively used and trusted.
- AI adoption uplift through practical use cases and training completion.
- Solutions that are secure, supportable, documented, and low rework.
What we’re looking for
To hit the ground running, you’ll ideally bring:
- Proven experience delivering end-to-end solutions across Microsoft 365 + Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint, Dataverse).
- Strong Power BI capability including:
- data modelling / semantic layer
- Power Query
- DAX
- performance optimisation
- row-level security
- Confidence translating business needs into practical solutions with measurable benefits.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills: you can work directly with operational leaders and SMEs.
- Experience delivering training/support to a mixed workforce (including non-desk-based teams).
- Sound understanding of information security, privacy and data handling in Microsoft environments.
Bonus points if you have
- Experience with Copilot, Copilot Studio, AI Builder, or Azure OpenAI/RAG patterns in an enterprise setting.
- Systems integration experience (custom connectors/APIs, Azure Functions/Logic Apps, SQL).
- Experience working in transport/logistics or a multi-site operational environment.
- Exposure to iterative delivery methods (Scrum/Agile-style delivery).
Why join Ritchies
- Deliver real-world outcomes (not just reports and prototypes).
- Work directly with operational teams and leaders across the business.
- A role with autonomy, variety, and the chance to shape how technology is used day-to-day.
- Be part of a practical, delivery-focused Technology team.
If you’re a doer who loves solving problems with the Microsoft platform, and you’re ready to deliver solutions that improve how people work every day, we’d love to hear from you.
