Rārangi Utu ā-Mātauranga - Education Payroll Limited (EPL) is a core part of Aotearoa New Zealand’s education sector, delivering an accurate, timely and secure payroll for the people at the heart of our education system - teachers and support staff. 

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Make your mark in this is a newly created, pivotal role! EPL is preparing for a technology transformation, centred around upgrading or replacing our core payroll system and moving to the cloud. 

The Principal Enterprise Architect will guide suppliers providing ‘Architecture-as-a-Service’ and collaborate with cross functional teams to create architecture that aligns with EPLs strategic goals. 

Key accountabilities:

  • Working closely with the Head of Strategy & Architecture and business leaders to understand the current state, future goals and develop technology strategic plans.
  • Guide and work with suppliers delivering ‘Architecture as a Service’ including planning and sizing work, specifying definitions of done/quality standards, co-ordinating with internal teams, reviewing outputs and ensuring knowledge is communicated and retained.
  • Collaborative development of Enterprise Architecture artefacts: principles, business capability maps, technology roadmaps, solution overviews, technology reference models, guidelines, landscape diagrams and solution designs. 
  • Lead the planning, design and development of architectural solutions that meet architectural principles, business requirements, deliver operational excellence, performance, reliability and security.
  • Support development and adoption of frameworks, standards and best practices for documenting our operating model, business rules, processes and requirements. 

Kōrero mōu - About You:

To be successful in this role you will need significant experience in:

  • Working in complex business, delivery and architecture environments
  • Working in a range of IT roles, preferably including multiple architecture domains (e.g. business, information, solution and/or technical)
  • Analysis, design and implementation of digital solutions.
  • Relational databases, software, languages, tools and middleware (preferably including Oracle, .NET, Kubernetes)
  • Influencing and building relationships to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Working in an Agile, product centric delivery environment.
  • Information management, financial models, system development methodologies and a broad range of technologies and tools.
