Who we are | Ko wai mātou

The University of Otago, Christchurch is the base for undergraduate medical and postgraduate health education and health research in Christchurch. We collaborate closely in our research and student programmes with the region’s hospitals run by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, and other community health agencies. The University of Otago, Christchurch was the top ranked of New Zealand’s four medical schools in the Government’s 2012 and 2006 Performance Based Research Funding Assessments (PBRF).

We have more than 1000 students on campus. This includes medical students in their three clinical years of training, and postgraduate health sciences students undertaking a range of programmes to PhD level.

The role | Te mahi

As a Professional Practice Fellow and Midwife Tutor, you will contribute to the teaching and assessment of students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. This is a varied and stimulating role that includes:
•    Preparation, assessment and teaching duties, under the supervision of the programme convenor;
•    Teaching and support of students in their clinical placements;
•    Being joint co-ordinator of the postgraduate residential papers OBGY718 and OBGY719.

The role of a Midwife tutor, contributing to medical education, is well established in the Department and provides final year medical students with a greater understanding of a multidisciplinary approach to working in the New Zealand maternity service.

Your skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

•    Relevant postgraduate and/or professional qualification.
•    Current midwifery practising certificate.
•    Appropriate professional experience.

A formal teaching qualification is not required for this role.

This is a part-time (0.6 FTE / 22.5 hours per week), permanent position based in Christchurch.

The appointment range for this role is $91,614 to $102,900 per annum (pro-rata).

The successful candidate will have opportunities to take part in our active obstetric research programme, which would be paid at additional FTE if interested.
