Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking a Programme Manager - Applied Doctorates Scheme to join the School of Graduate Studies. This exciting position leads the development and delivery of the national MBIE-funded Applied Doctoral Scheme, a pioneering initiative fostering impactful research partnerships between universities and industry.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide leadership, high-level advice, and strategic direction for the Applied Doctoral Scheme across Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Support and advise the national Governance Group.
  • Oversee contract deliverables, financial management, and reporting on behalf of the University of Auckland.
  • Manage the development and implementation of student and supervisor training programmes and support services.
  • Facilitate partnership agreements, student pastoral care, and the expansion of the scheme nationally.

This role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, on a permanent contract. The salary range for this role is $96,800 - $119,500 per annum, dependent on experience and qualifications.

The School of Graduate Studies is the central unit responsible for managing doctoral research programmes across Waipapa Taumata Rau. We work across the lifecycle of doctoral education—supporting students and supervisors from enrolment to completion. The School is known for fostering excellence, innovation, and inclusivity in postgraduate research.

 

He kōrero mōu | About you

We are looking for a confident, experienced programme leader with a passion for postgraduate research and stakeholder collaboration. You will bring:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification (a research degree preferred).
  • At least five years’ experience in managing complex programmes within education or government settings.
  • Proven project management and reporting skills, including financial oversight.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to navigate high-level stakeholder environments with confidence and credibility.
  • Experience managing staff and/or development programmes is desirable.
  • Understanding of doctoral education and research partnerships is an advantage.
